Kith for the NFL: Giants Collection
There’s a decision you make growing up in New York that defines you. My father left that decision to me when I was just 5 years old. He took me to the store and he held up two beanies…one was the Giants and the other one was the Jets. Since that day, I’ve been a diehard Giants fan.
I remember my dad and I being glued to the TV in 1991 as the Giants faced the Bills in Super Bowl XXV. I was too young then to realize I was watching one of the greatest games in history, but I do remember the Bills setting up for a field goal with the score at 20-19. We held our breath until Scott Norwood’s kick missed and Al Michaels called out that it went “wide right”.
We didn’t claim the NFC title for another decade. Four years after that we made a move that would shape our future. The Chargers had the 1st pick in the 2004 draft, which we traded our draft pick Philip Rivers for, plus three other picks. This trade landed us Eli Manning. Which leads me to one of the most electrifying nights of my life…
February 3, 2008. My friends and I piled into my friend Nick’s house to watch Super Bowl XLII. Little did we know that we were about to witness the greatest football game in history. We faced off against the only team in history to have a 16-0 regular season, the Patriots.
The Pats were up 14-10 late in the 4th quarter. Which is when Eli would begin the drive of a lifetime. There are few memories as seared into my brain as Eli escaping multiple sacks before launching it to David Tyree who made a miracle of a catch. Four plays later, Eli found Plaxico in the end zone and sealed the biggest upset in Super Bowl history.
The 2011 season was another significant year in my life. While winning the Super Bowl against the Pats again was massive, that was the year I met the best man at my wedding - Victor Cruz. After going undrafted in 2010, Vic would become a spark plug that would help us win it all that year.
So for all these reasons and more, I’m proud to announce that Kith will be releasing our first collection with the NFL this year, which will also include a special collection with my hometown team, the New York Giants. Stay tuned.
