8th St by Ronnie Fieg for Clarks Originals
8th St will be an ongoing category for the brand that begins in April 2021. All-new silhouettes and colorways will be introduced seasonally. The inaugural capsule is comprised of four models, which includes two colorways each of two original silhouettes. The first silhouettes are the Sandford and Lockhill.
The inspiration for the name 8th St comes from the location of Fieg's first job in the footwear industry as a stock boy at the age of 13. While working there he developed his love for Clark's and their catalogue of silhouettes. As he launches his own category with the brand, the name is a nod to his roots and the journey.
The silhouettes' names Sandford and Lockhill come from towns in England that are relevant to the origin of Clark's. When first beginning, Clark's named its factories and warehouses after towns, buildings, and streets nearby. Lockhill refers to one of the brands first shoe repair factories which eventually developed into manufacturing from between 1956-1980, which was located in the rural Somerset town called Street. Street is where brothers James and Cyrus Clark developed the first-ever Clark's shoe and marks the first chapter in the brand's story. Sandford refers to their first warehouse in London, which marked a significant growth and evolution for the brand.
The Lockhill takes an athletic approach to a luxury model. The upper is fully crafted from premium suede featuring solid panels for the mudguard, heel, and upper overlays. These panels sit atop a perforated suede underlay and a microperforated ankle designed for a snug comfortable fit. The sole is made entirely from Clark's lauded genuine crepe. The Lockhill is offered in two colorways - solid Antler and the blocked Maple/Scarab/Red. The Clark's wordmark is debossed on the front of the mudguard, while the saddle features a debossed retro Clark's crest.
The Sandford is driven by a lifestyle approach to luxury. The upper is made from premium microperforated suede with solid panels on the toe wrap, eyestay, and ankle. The sole is also made from Clark's genuine crepe and features a leather welt. Deboss branding can be seen on the heel tabs and the lateral side of the panel. The Sandford is offered in two solid colorways - Maple and Scarab.
Both shoes arrive in custom packaging with three lace options and branded suede hang tags. The boxes feature original illustrated artwork of the towns both silhouettes were named after. All four colorways of the Lockhill and Sandford will retail for $220 USD and will release on April 16 at Kith shops as well as Kith.com and eu.Kith.com.
